Distance and Elevation Gain on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek

The Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) Trek covers a round-trip distance of approximately 70 - 110 kilometers (43 - 68 miles). The actual distance depends upon your starting and ending points (Nayapul, Jhinu Danda, or Ghandruk), as well as the actual path that you take. Most itineraries for the ABC trek start from Nayapul (1070m) or Ghandruk (1940m) following a well-defined walking trail through terraced fields, rhododendron forests, and Gurung settlements before moving into the alpine region.

The climb evolves relatively gently to its highest point of Annapurna Base Camp at 4130m (13,550 feet). As a general rule, trekkers can expect to pass through a named settlement on the way to Base Camp at Chhomrong (2170m), Himalaya (2920m), and Machapuchare Base Camp (3700m). The altitude gain is moderate compared to other high altitude trek levels, allowing for access to a range of trekkers, especially with built in acclimatization 'stops'.

Although it is a largely moderate trek in terms of altitude, the ABC trek offers significant shifts in biome from subtropical lowland terrain to soaring high Himalayan glacial basins, capped off with stunning 360 degree views of peaks, including Annapurna I (8091m), Machapuchare (6993m), and Hiunchuli (6441m).
